8-of-9) An 0-6-0 diesel shunter prepares a short train for departure from Leicester Belgrave Road goods depot.  The closed passenger station can be seen in the distance on the left beyond piles of scrap at Vic Berry’s scrapyard which had been opened there.  Photographed from Catherine Street Viaduct, 11/8/67.

9-of-9) Taking the short train of empty fuel tank wagons and one of scrap metal from Leicester Belgrave Road goods depot up to the Midland Main Line via the reinstated chord at Forest Road, 11/8/67.  The fuel tank wagons were unloaded at facilities which can be seen on the left into road tankers for final delivery.

4-of-9) Walking further along Hutchinson Walk to view Leicester Midland locomotive shed yard on a Sunday revealed diesel classes 25, 27, 08, 13/8/67.  The tower on the left had been used for disposing of the ash from steam locomotives.

Leicester Midland from the ‘Birdcage’

3-of-9) Ex-Midland ‘4F’ 0-6-0 no. 44540 was station pilot at Leicester Midland on 7.4.1964.  Photographed from the ‘Birdcage’ (ie. Hutchinson Walk) it is just outside London Road Station shunting wagons in the parcels sidings alongside the station.  This locomotive is recorded as being withdrawn the following month.
